Release is a mental-game coaching tool for golfers, powered by AI — not a human coach.
The conversation is generated by AI. Release coaches the mind, not your swing mechanics, and it is not therapy, medical care, or a crisis service.
Your journal and round notes are stored on your device, and much of Release's intelligence runs on your iPhone itself.
If you subscribe, your subscription auto-renews until you cancel through Apple's subscription settings. Cancelling is easy — see Section 5.
1. Acceptance of these Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Release: Golf Mental Game ("Release"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use Release.
These Terms form a binding agreement between you and Daniel Kernan, the operator of Release (referred to here as "Release," "we," "us," or "our"). They apply to your use of the Release iOS app and any related services.
2. What Release is
Release is an iOS app that coaches the mental side of golf through hands-free, voice-based conversation and a private journaling and round-notes system. It helps you get ready before a round, train your focus on the range and the practice green, manage nerves and routine, and process a round when it's over. Its philosophy is simple: mind stats, not swing stats.
How you use it
Release meets you in the moments of golf where the mind matters most:
- Pre-round: settle in, set your intentions, and step to the first tee ready.
- Range: turn practice into real reps with a target and a decision on every ball.
- Practice round: build the on-course routine you'll lean on when it counts.
- Putting: a quiet, repeatable green routine for the most mental part of the game.
- Post-round: close the round in a way that builds you up, and capture what to carry forward.
What Release is NOT
Release is NOT a swing coach or instruction service. It coaches the mind — focus, routine, commitment, acceptance — and deliberately leaves swing mechanics to your instructor.
Release is NOT mental health care. It is not therapy, counseling, psychiatric care, or any clinical service. The AI is not a licensed therapist or clinician and cannot diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. If you are experiencing a mental health condition, please seek care from a licensed professional.
Release is NOT a crisis service. If you are experiencing thoughts of self-harm or suicide, contact 988 (call or text), text HOME to 741741, or dial 911 if you are in immediate danger. Release cannot intervene on your behalf or contact anyone for you.
Release does NOT guarantee results. Mental-game coaching can help you play more freely, but no app can promise lower scores or specific outcomes.
3. Eligibility and parental consent
Release is available to users 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly permit children under 13 to use Release.
If you are under 18, you may use Release only with the knowledge and consent of a parent or legal guardian. Where required by law, your parent or guardian must provide verifiable consent through the App Store before you download Release or make a purchase. Apple verifies age and obtains this parental consent as part of the download and purchase process, and may share your age range and consent status with us so we can provide an age-appropriate experience. A parent or guardian who consents to a minor's use of Release agrees to these Terms on the minor's behalf and is responsible for supervising that use.
4. Your account
Release is accessed through your Apple ID. You are responsible for safeguarding access to your Apple ID, the security of your device, and all activity under your subscription. Release is designed for individual personal use.
5. Subscription terms
Release offers a free tier and an auto-renewable subscription with two paid tiers. The free tier includes the tips library, text journaling, and round logs. Live voice coaching and voice journaling are part of the paid tiers. The terms below are what Apple's App Store requires us to disclose clearly.
5.1 Available subscriptions
| Tier | Monthly | Annual | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Player | $24.99 | $249.99 | Live on-course voice coaching, voice journaling, coach memory, plus everything in the free tier. Includes a monthly voice allowance. |
| Pro | $34.99 | $349.99 | Everything in Player with a larger monthly voice allowance. |
The free tier — tips, text journaling, and round logs — is available without a subscription and at no cost. Monthly voice allowances are generous safety ceilings intended to cover normal use, not tight limits on typical play.
5.2 Free trial
New subscribers may be offered a free trial (currently 7 days). During the free trial:
- A payment method is required at signup.
- You will be able to use the paid features during the trial period.
- If you do not cancel before the end of the trial, your subscription will automatically begin and your payment method will be charged for the tier you selected at signup.
5.3 Auto-renewal
Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, unless you cancel auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID account will be charged within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. Subscriptions can be managed, and auto-renewal turned off, in your Apple ID Account Settings after purchase.
5.4 How to cancel
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Release, then Cancel Subscription.
If you cancel during a free trial, you will not be charged. If you cancel after being charged, you keep access until the end of your current billing period. Refund requests must be made through reportaproblem.apple.com; Release does not control Apple's refund process.
5.5 Price changes
If we change a subscription price, we will notify you in advance through the App Store. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price. You may cancel before the new price takes effect.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Release while operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner. Release is designed for hands-free use, but you remain responsible for safe driving at all times.
- Use Release in a way that distracts you from playing safely or that interferes with other players, course staff, or course rules.
- Attempt to circumvent technical restrictions, including voice allowances or trial limits.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app.
- Use Release in any way that violates applicable law or these Terms, or to harass, threaten, or harm any person.
- Share, sell, or transfer your account access to anyone else.
We may suspend or terminate access for users who violate these Terms.
7. AI conversation disclosure
Release's coaching conversations are generated by artificial intelligence, not a human. The live voice coach is powered by Hume AI's Empathic Voice Interface. Some post-round summaries are generated by Anthropic's Claude models through our backend. Certain features — including round-note drafting and the transcription of spoken journal entries — run on your device using Apple's on-device intelligence. The AI may sound conversational and attuned, but it does not have feelings or awareness the way a person does.
We provide this notice in the interest of transparency and consistent with applicable AI-disclosure requirements, including California Senate Bill 243.
8. Disclaimers
Release is not a substitute for professional care. Release does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition, and is not a substitute for licensed mental health care, medical care, or golf instruction.
Release is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health crisis, contact one of the resources below or dial 911.
Crisis resources
- 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: call or text 988
- Crisis Text Line: text HOME to 741741
- Emergency: dial 911 if in immediate danger
9. Your content and your control
Voice audio from coaching sessions is processed live and is not retained after the session ends. Spoken journal entries are transcribed on your device, and the audio is discarded — only the resulting text is kept. Your journal entries, round notes, and the items you choose to work on are stored on your device, and you can edit or delete them at any time within the app. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
10. Intellectual property
Release — including the app, the brand, the coaching voice and system prompts, the round-notes and memory design, and all related materials — is the intellectual property of Daniel Kernan / Release. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of Release without our written permission.
You retain ownership of the content you create in Release (your journal entries and round notes). By using Release, you grant us a limited license to process your content as needed to provide the service, as described in our Privacy Policy.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Release is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that Release will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that the AI's responses will be accurate, complete, or appropriate for your situation.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Release's total liability for any claim arising out of or related to your use of the service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid Release in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100). Release is not liable for indirect, consequential, incidental, special, exemplary, or punitive damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so some may not apply to you.
12. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Release and Daniel Kernan from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of Release in violation of these Terms or applicable law.
13. Termination
You may stop using Release and cancel your subscription at any time, as described in Section 5.4. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or applicable law. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including intellectual property, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution) will continue to apply.
14. Dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the state in which Release is operated, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where preempted by federal law or by consumer-protection laws applicable to you. Please first contact us so we can try to resolve any dispute informally. If we cannot, any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or your use of Release will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in the United States. This section does not waive any rights you may have under applicable consumer-protection laws.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app, by email, or both, and update the effective date above. Your continued use of Release after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the changes.
16. Miscellaneous
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Release regarding your use of the service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. These Terms are in addition to, and do not replace, Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (EULA) and Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions, which apply to apps you download from the App Store.
